Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to understand and explain main periods of history of European Art until 1500.
Syllabus
  • Carolingian art (8th - 10th century).
  • Romanesque architecture in France (11th century).
  • Romanesque architecture along the Rhine: Mainz, Speyer, Worms (11th - 12th century).
  • Abbey Saint-Denis: formation of the gothic style (12th - 13th century).
  • The gothic style in the Bohemian Lands (13th - 15th century).
  • Giotto and "trecento" (14th century).
  • "Late Gothic" style; painting in Netherlands (15th century).
  • "Quattrocento" - the Early Renaissance in Italy (15th century).
