Course objectives
Basic theoretical overview of Bulgarian syntax, differences and similarities with Czech language, overview of Bulgarian terminology. At the end of the course students will - be able to demonstrate the knowledge of Bulgarian syntax. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of linguistics. - have a broader and more solid understanding of key aspects of comparative study of Slavonic languages - be familiar with Bulgarian grammar - contrast and compare Czech and Bulgarian language

  • Basic terminology (syntax, sentence, verb phrase, nominal phrase, other basic terms); syntactical analysis of texts
  • 1. General characteristics of syntax, basic terminology 2. Word, syntagma, sentence, phrase 3. Predicate 4. Subject 5. Object 6. Adverbial 7. Atribute, aposition 8. Predicative complement 9. Sentences from modal point of view 10. Simple sentence 11. Paratactical sentences, types of paratactical sentences 12. Hypotactical sentences, types of hypotactical sentences

Teaching methods
One lecture and one seminar per week, plus individual tutorials prior to the end of course assessment.
Assessment methods
The course has a form of a lecture and a class discussion. Final paper. A condition for admission to the exam - submission paper work at least seven days before the test date, and public presentation of paper. The test is only verbal and examine the orientation of the professional terminology and the ability of text analysis. The final mark is composed of seminar work, tests and activity in the seminar.
