- Course objectives
- The course aims at providing students with a critical-philological approach to ancient texts. Sometimes we will work on unpublished texts or first-hand material (manuscripts or early prints).

- Reading of ancient Italian texts. Aspects of the historical development of the language and historical grammar. Aspects of Italian textual criticism. Fundaments of manuscript studies.

- Teaching methods
- Lecture: description of the literary field, explanation and definition of basic notions and their demonstration on concrete texts by concrete authors. Seminar: Application of the acquired theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. In the form of a presentation the students show their capability to connect their theoretical knowledge while working with a concrete text.

- Analysis of a text in a seminar essay and a test.
