- Course objectives
- The aim of the seminar is to enable students to write professional academic texts in Czech. That is, to enable students to write texts which are clearly-expressed, grammatically correct, well-structured and logically coherent. At the end of this course, students should be able: to use correct methods and techniques in individual stages of academic writing; to understand different academic genres; to create communicative texts of various academic genres.
- Syllabus
- Main topics of the course:
- 1/ introduction to the course (objectives, methods, evaluation), language etiquette and language culture (not only) at the university,
- 2/ active reading and creative notes, searching and selection of a topic, creating of an outline and draft text,
- 3/ scientific language and style, basic structure of a scientific text,
- 4/ scientific methods, collecting and working with secondary literature
- 5/ bibliography, citation standards and ethics,
- 6/ frequent lexical and stylistic errors, language interference, difficult chapters of Czech grammar and spelling,
- 7/ formal revision and text editing, preparation of publication output.

- The course is a combination of workshops & class discussions (every fortnight) and regular homework assignments. Self-study is required.

- Completion of the course: completed homeworks, written test (60 % of correct answers is needed to pass), compulsory work with the course in the e-learning environment of the Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University (ELF).
