- Course objectives
- This course presents the basics of Macedonian, in both its written and spoken form. In the first lesson, students learn about the basic characteristics of this South Slavic language and its distinctive features in confrontation with other Slavic languages (most of all Czech); the rest of the course is dedicated to Macedonian phonology, morphology and syntax. Step by step, students acquire basic vocabulary and learn to speak in Macedonian about simple topics (meeting new people, family, in the restaurant, talking on the phone etc.).
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction – general characteristics of the Macedonian language (member of the South Slavic languages group, Balto-Slavic family, codification of literary Macedonian, system of names and verbs, accent, the category of definiteness), Cyrillic alphabet. 2. Basic conversation – saying hello, introducing, saying good-bye; verb to be in present tense, personal pronouns. 3. Demonstrative pronouns, questions, nationalities, daily routine. 4. Verb to be in future tense, treba da + bide, adverbs of place and time, days of the week, months. 5. My family, verb to be in past tense, questions with pronouns, possessive pronouns. 6. System of verb classes based on the present ending, present tense. 7. Nouns – masculine, feminine and neuter endings; plural. 8. Article – three forms of the definite article (unspecified form, proximate and distal forms – proximity to the speaker); distribution of the post-fixed article accordin to noun endings; using the article. 9. Adjectives – forms, article, comparing adjectives. 10. Prepositions and their use.
