- Course objectives
- Students will be acquainted with both the theory and practice of writing for a student newspaper. They will improve their English writing skills; some submissions will be published in the printed version of The KAArdian (Department of English and American Studies student newspaper) or on the blog (thekaardian.wordpress.com).
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to the course and newspaper.
2. Student newspaper writing: theory; editorial work: problems and challenges, revision and editing. November issue: preparation, article topics.
3. November issue; pre-publishing tasks. Advanced Writing; role of the author, target reader.
4. December issue; preparation, article topics. Advanced Writing; forming ideas, coherence, cohesion.
5. December issue; pre-publishing tasks. Advanced Writing; rhetorical methods, self-evaluation.
6. Course and coursework evaluation. Creative Writing; literary genres, individual style development, creative writing exercise.

- Teaching methods
- The course will take the form of a seminar with individual, pair, and group work. Students will perform short tasks related to newspaper writing. As the course will be held only once in two weeks, there will also be an on-line communication established.
- Assessment methods
- Credits will be given for on-time submission of two articles and/or the performing of secondary tasks which will be agreed on beforehand (proofreading, distribution, PR, among others)
