Course objectives
The course is aimed on adoption of the basics of this East Slavic language, its written and spoken form. Students should get the idea of phonetics and morphology of Russian language and the ability to communicate in Russian on common topics of everyday life. Students will also learn basic realia about Russia and Russians (history, art, geography). After finishing the course, the student will have A1 level according to CEFR.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student:
– will gain basic knowledge about Russian language (phonetics and morphology);
– will be able to communicate in Russian on common topics of everyday life (at A1 level);
– will learn basic realia about Russia and Russians (history, art, geography).
Syllabus
  • 1. Vocabulary, topic: greeting, short polite phrases, Russian names of several cities; grammar: the present tense of the verb “to be“, addressing; phonetics: word accent in Russian, intonation, pronunciation of the sound ш; výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 2. vocabulary, topic: family members, professions, domestic animals; grammar: possessive pronouns, constructions “I have, you have”, “I like”; phonetics: pronunciation of the sounds я, е, ё, ю, unstressed sounds о, а, е, я;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 3. vocabulary, topic: the names of countries, their habitats and language, short introduction; grammar: verbs жить, говорить, изучать, numerals 15 and 16; phonetics: pronunciation of the sound ж, question intonation.výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 4. vocabulary, topic: days of the week, school subjects, timetable; grammar: constructions “I have, you have, he/she has”, numerals 0–20, the verbs писать, записать, написать; phonetics: pronunciation of the sounds ч, щ, pronunciation of the sounds рʼ, лʼ;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 5. revision: phrases and grammar from the lectures 1–4; patronymic, the words of foreign origin;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 6. vocabulary, topic: seasons, months, birthday; grammar: the past tense of the verbs, the dative case of the pronouns он, она, numerals 30–100, the verb подарить; phonetics: pronunciation of the sound ы, pronunciation of the sounds дʼ, тʼ, нʼ;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 7. vocabulary, topic: shops and goods; grammar: construction must/need, the dative case of personal pronouns, the dative case of the selected nouns, ordinal numerals 1–5, the verb купить; phonetics: pronunciation of the sounds л and лʼ;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 8. vocabulary, topic: food and drinks, at a café, prices; grammar: linking numerals with nouns, numerals 200–1000, the verbs взять, быть, пить a есть; phonetics: pronunciation of sounds бʼ, пʼ, мʼ, pronunciation of the words of foreign origin;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;
  • 9. vocabulary, topic: words from previous lectures, holidays, transport, sport and leisure time; grammar: the verbs пойти, поехать, the pronouns какой, этот, adjectives; phonetics: revision;výslovnost hlásek л a лʼ;

Teaching methods
The language course in its classical version: work with the student’s book and the workbook, occasional necessary theoretical explanations of the teacher, home tasks, additional materials according to attenders’ needs and interests, videos, audios, online quizzes etc.
Assessment methods
The course is finished by test that verifies the knowledge gained by students; to get credit, it is necessary to have at least 60 % points. To successfully finish the subject, the regular attendance is required—the maximum of two absences, apart from the period of changing in registration. It is also necessary to complete the tasks assigned by your teacher properly and in time, especially in Elf.
