- Course objectives
- This course is an introduction to computer-aided translation. The students of this course should acquire competitive knowledge of the following CAT tools:
- SDL-Trados Studio 2011
- MemSource
Furthermore, this course is aimed at improving general translation and mother-tongue skills of students and at revealing their own strengths and weaknesses. This course is a must for all students who are considering their careers as (freelance) translators. Students will be informed about the latest developments in translation for the European Commission. - Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the students will be able to:
- effectively use selected CAT tools (SDL-Trados Studio, MemSource)
- recognize texts suitable for the application of CAT tools
- manage translation memories
- seek employment in positions where computer aided translation is used and required, including positions with the European Commision - Syllabus

- Non-literary translation theory and practice, in-class translations, translations at home, in-class evaluation.

- Continuous assessment based on home assignments, test translations written at home, and one final translation.

13 December (Tue), 10-12, 13:30-16, TRADOS in G21 with Mgr. Stanislav Pokorný
15 December (Thursday), 10-14 MEMSOURCE in G02 with Mgr. Alena Tomešová
+ final take-home test (to be assigned by Mgr. Pokorný)
