- Course objectives
- The goal of the course is an attempt of a closer comprehension of key terms/concepts of aesthetics/art citicism Participants continually present their own analyses-abstracts on a given theoretical item. 15–18 minutes exactly for each presentation is reserved. The procedure is also strictly given and it is in the following way: 1.Defining (explicating) a given concept/property according to various at least five Czech dictionaries (of Aesthetics) and at least one foreign one; 2.Demonstrating mentioned definition/explication on individually chosen examples of works of art; 3. Discussion. Students will pass the course if the following conditions are met: 1. Public presentation their own analyses-abstracts; 2. At most two forgiven absences; 3. Passing a written test testing a comprehension of the following articles: -G. E. Moore: Inner Value -G. Dickie: Triumph in the Triumph of the Will –G. Dickie: Art: An Institutional Analysis -G. Herméren: An Interpretation: Types and Criteria -P. Kivy: Platonism in Music: A Kind of Defence -F. Sibley: Aesthetic Concepts -R. Hilpinen: Artefact At the end of the course an ideal student will be able to discrimine and use a basic aesthetic vocabulary – key concepts.

- The method is of three sorts: 1. The students presents their own reports on given subjects/concepts. 2. Commented reading of fundamental texts on aesthetic concepts. 3. Discussion on reports and/or reading.
