- Course objectives
- The aim is to introduce students to the administration and operation of an automated library system and to allow them to try out these activities in practice. Using the example of Koha to show the breadth of the library system agenda and how it affects processes and services.
- Learning outcomes
- The student after completing the course: - understand the principle of standard protocols; - will be familiar with the current formats used in ALS; - understand the impact of ALS on library processes and services; - will be able to export ALS data for analysis purposes.

- 1) 20.9.2023 (12:00-16:00) - Automated library system - introduction - selection of the library system - local solution vs. cloud - parts of ALS 2) 18.10.2023 (12:00-16:00) - Library processes and ALS - library processes - installation and configuration of the instance - types of items and management of their circulation within the library - definition of borrowing and reservation rules - setting up notifications to readers - payments 3) 29.11.2023 (12:00-16:00) - Data formats - identities and their use in practice - data formats and rules - linked data - in teroperability in library systems 4) 13.12.2023 (12:00-16:00) - Statistics and analytics in ALS - metadata errors - analysis, cleaning and other work with data using the OpenRefine tool - statistics - use of analytics in libraries - what data can be collected from the system - Koha Center - statistics centre - analysis and visualization in practice
