- Course objectives
- Students will be introduced to the historical development of ethnomusicology, the basic terminology and methodology of the discipline and the object of its study.
The seminar is a two-semester course. - Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- understand the object of research in ethnomusicology;
- clearly characterize the historical development of the discipline;
- deal with the basic literature of the discipline;
- discuss the subject matter in terminological terms - Syllabus
- Propedeutics, terminological discussion
- Folk song collecting and collectors, institutions and editorial activities
- Folk instrumental music in the Czech lands
- The theory of folk song and the cataloguing texts and tunes
- Between comparative musicology and ethnomusicology
- Folklore movement in the Czech lands and the ethnocultural traditions
