  • Genes underlying complex traits, molecular dissection of QTLs, genome screen, use of genomics in animal breeding
  • Genes underlying health traits in domestic animals (inherited diseases, genetic resistance to disease, genetics of host and pathogen interaction, environmental mutagens and their effects, genetics of tumors in domestic animals
  • Theoretical principles of domestic animal improvement, basic zootechnics

Genetics of domestic animal species and its most important practical applications are reviewes in the course.
Syllabus
  • Special attention is paid to: Gene mapping and genome analysis in domestic animals, identification of candidate genes. Genes underlying economically important traits. Health traits: hereditary diseases, genetics of host x pathogen interaction and genetic resistance/susceptibility to disease, genotoxic environmental factors, genetics of tumors in domestic animals. Genetics of morphological traits important in animal breeding and their molecular aspects. Productivity traits: genetics of quantitative traits and their molecular dissection, genome scan. Genetical principals of animal breeding. Breeding and selection in livestock species. Breeding value in animal selection, marker-assisted selection. Breeds of domestic animals. Genetics of laboratory animals.
