Course objectives
Selected Issues in Botany is a course offered by external lecturers who talk about their research. There are different lecturers in every semester. Rather than a comprehensive coverage of some subject, the purpose of this course is defining scientific problems in a focused topic, discussion on methods applied to solve these problems, and presentation of results of particular projects.

  • HISTORICKÁ INTERPRETACE VEGETACE (RNDr. Jiří Sádlo, CSc.) 1. Tři výchozí podmínky: Aktualismus, "paměť krajiny" a mezioborovost. 2. Úskalí historické struktury čehokoli: Na otázku, jak je něco staré, existuje vždycky víc správných odpovědí, které navíc nejsou zcela nezávislé. 3. Syntaxonomie jako užitečný nástroj paleobotaniky: Ale také paleobotanika jako užitečný argument pro oprávněnost víry v syntaxony. 4. "Velké téma" holocénu: Vývoj lesa oproti bezlesí a vývoj člověka, který hranici lesa podstatně ovlivňoval. 5. Diversita vegetačních dynamik: Rozdíl mezi sukcesí a cenogenezí není jen otázkou časové škály. 6. Heterochronie vegetačního vývoje: Paleochorní a apochorní vegetace neboli s pojmem relikt radši opatrně. 7. Dynamika krajiny: Stabilizující a destabilizující vlivy, jevy a procesy. 8. Staroslavná stepní otázka: Co znamená intuitivně předpokládaná "zlatá střední cesta" mezi pochybnými extrémy úplného zalesnění a širých stepí? 9. Primární a sekundární bezlesí: Klasifikace, s níž už možná nevystačíme. 10. Kultura versus natura čili ohrožená Fysis: Pche! Těžký omyl! 11. Revoluce naší krajiny (neolit, vrcholný středověk, baroko...): A jak se potom dívat na změny v současnosti? 12. Mapy potenciální vegetace: Není to jen toporný nelogický konstrukt? 13. Historicita jako ochranářský argument: Hrách na stěnu.

Vzhledem k možnostem externích přednášejících probíhá výuka zpravidla blokově.
