- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to engage students in a variety of activities which will develop students´ own writing style based on a study of examples (namely, structures and typical features of an abstract, scientific article and dissertation). If need and interest, basics of public speaking and leading a discussion will be tackled.
- Syllabus
- While exploring the following selected areas, the students will study the aspects of academic writing in English: 1) general characterics and variety of genres, 2) detailed structure of an abstract, 3) detailed stucture of a scientific article, 4) detailed structure of a dissertation. If need and interest, basics of public speaking (giving oral presentations) and useful phrases will be tackled as well. This will happen in 6 two-session teaching days distributed through the semester between end-February and end-April 2011.
