Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce basic terminology, theories and development of general psychology and psychology of personality. The course also introduces the basic principles and laws of psychological development, with biodromal perspective in the approach to a human, the basic characteristics of the different stages of human development, and especially with the age specifics of children and adolescents. Another aim of the course is to equip students with fundamental socio-psychological theories and basic concepts and phenomena that examines social psychology. The content of the course will show students relationships between psychology and other socio-scientific fields and indicate possibilities of usage of psychology knowledge in teaching job.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to: • understand and use the basic terminology and concepts of general, developmental and social psychology; • have basic knowledge over contemporary developmental psychology, its specific methods and principles of periodization of psychological development; • understand the influence of the group on the individual, the occurrence of stereotypes and prejudices, the relations between groups and the pressures within the group; • read common psychological texts for teacher, understand them and think about them creatively; • distinguish between academic psychology knowledge and popular psychology knowledge.
Syllabus
  • 1. Psychology as the science, basic psychological concepts, psychological methodology and methods and relation to other sciences. Behavior and emotions. Psycholocal paradigms introduction (Associationism. Neurophysiology. Deep psychology. Behaviorism. Gestalt psychology).
  • 2. Basic psychological concepts (psychology, consciousness, personality, cognition) and the actual state of psychological sciences. Humanistic psychology. Cognitive psychology.
  • 3. Personality - the starting point for the application of psychological knowledge. Structure and dynamics of personality. Characteristics of personality. Typological approaches of personality.
  • 4. Aptitudes, abilities and skills, intelligence, learning and memory. Intelligence assessmement. Intelligence disorders. Intelligence and creativity. Emotion, motivation. Interests, values. Temperament, will, attention.
  • 5. Cognition and cognitive processes (perception, imagination, fantasy, thinking, speech).
  • 6. Introduction to developmental psychology, periodizations of human development stages. The theories of psychological development.
  • 7. Characteristics of the basic periods of human life I. (from the prenatal period to the beginning of adolescence).
  • 8. Characteristics of basic periods of human life II. (from adolescence to old age).
  • 9. Individual development and its critical moments, sensitive moments periods (in perspective of education).
  • 10. Human and culture; the problem of social behavior sources, social psychology as the science; pespectives of application of social psychological knowledge (in education).
  • 11. Socialization; socialization as the proces; social learning. Education, leadership, care, management, therapy - in socio-cultural contexts. Construction of the social world and interpersonal learning; The problem of self-realization in the context of the social environment.
  • 12. Social behavior. Interaction. Prosocial behavior. Social competences and skills. Attitudes.
  • 13. Psychology of social group. Effects of the group context on the performance and completion of social competences, characteristics and skills. Risks of group life. Group (structure and dynamics, possibilities of assessment of group characteristics).
