- Course objectives
- The aim is to present to students the development of cartography and its products, especially old maps and atlases. These will be conceived both as cultural and social artifacts that arose and fulfilled specific functions in their time, as well as parts of cultural heritage and historical sources. Students will learn to search for old maps in archiving institutions, analyze them and apply the principles of historical criticism to them. They will get acquainted with the basics of the map collection curator and will be introduced to the possibilities of the presentation and study of old maps in spatial studies (digital humanities). Lessons will take place in the Faculty of Science and map collections and archives in Brno, primarily on original documents.

- Student will be able to:
- describe the evolution of cartography in space and time;
- understand all important parts of cartographic heritage;
