- Course objectives
- At the end of this course students should be able to understand and explain principles of application of genetics to domestic animal breeding and husbandry. Based on this, students should be able to specialize in this field of genetics.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course students should be able to understand and explain principles of application of genetics to domestic animal breeding and husbandry. Based on this, students should be able to specialize in this field of genetics.
- Syllabus
- Genomes a genomics of domestic animals
- Genetics of important morphological traits of domestic animals
- Genes underlying complex traits, molecular dissection of QTLs, genome screen, use of genomics in animal breeding
- Genes underlying health traits in domestic animals (inherited diseases, genetic resistance to disease, genetics of host and pathogen interaction, environmental mutagens and their effects, genetics of tumors in domestic animals

- Teaching methods
- Lectures - interactive, with discussion.
- Assessment methods
- Oral exam composed of two questions: general and specific. General questions aims to check students´ capability to understand and explain a broad topic of animal genetics, from theoretical principles to practical applications. Specific questions check students´ capability to describe and explain a specific problem of animal genetics.
