- Course objectives
- This course is a follow-up of a secondary school course of physics and it aims to reduce the differences in students' initial knowledge of physics and thus put the base for further study of more advanced disciplines of physics and physico-chemical topics.
The main aims of this course
1. To acquire the basic usage of advanced mathematics in natural sciences.
2. To understand fundamental physical terms and laws.
3. To present the basic procedures used in solving physical problems.
The lecture is accompanied by a lot of various experiments. - Syllabus
- 1. Units and quantities.
- 2. Measurement, experimental data processing, elements of theory of experimental errors.
- 3. Mathematics in physics.
- 4. Description of world by physical theories, equations of motion, initial conditions.
- 5. Classical mechanics, Newton’s law, conservation laws.
- 6. Mechanics of liquids, surface tension.
- 7. Temperature and measurement of temperature.
- 8. Harmonic oscillator, damped and forced oscillations, resonance, oscillation with two and more degrees of freedom
- 9. Waves, harmonic wave, waves in one dimension and waves in 3D space, superposition, dispersion.
- 10. Electrostatics, electric field, potential and voltage, electric dipole, polarization.
- 11. Electric current, measurement of electrical quantities.
- 12. Magnetic field, magnetic dipole, magnetic properties of matter, electromagnetic field.
