Knowledge of the basic shapes of geological bodies, knowledge of basic geological concepts (unconformity, normal and inverse faults ...)

Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: use geological compass, read geological map, prepare geological cross-sections and interpret orientational data. They are prepared for Mapping course in the field.
Syllabus
  • Used map projections and topographic map, preparation of topographic profile.
  • Geological compass, orientation measurement.
  • Geologic map, geologic map symbols. Some special geologic maps.
  • Geological mapping, equipment for mapping.
  • Geologic map interpretation, V-rule, three point problem, structure section.
  • Geological bibliography.
  • Some special methods.

Teaching methods
Lectures and dominant practical class exercises.
Assessment methods
Electronic test on PC and practical exam of compass measurement. Students must pass all the tasks of exercise.
