Course objectives
The aim of the course is to present a systematic introduction to physical foundations of current nanotechnology and nanoscience. The introductory theoretical lectures are followed by series of survey lectures dedicated to the most prominent nanotechnology disciplines.
Learning outcomes
By the end this lecture, the student will be able to describe qualitatively:
- fundamental physical principles behind the most important nanotechnology branches
- principles of main methods for fabricating nanotechnology structures
- main methods of material characterization
- current most renowned nanotechnology applications.
Syllabus
  • Nano-optics - the surface plasmon, quantum dots, nanophotonics
  • Nanomagnetism - physical properties of magnetic nanostructures
  • Nanomechanics - structure and mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes, nano-microelectromechanical systems (NEMS/MEMS)
  • Nanostructured thin film coating - classification, super-hard coatings, processing techniques and principles
  • Nanocatalysic materials - fundamentals, materials and characterization
  • Carbon fibers and nanotubes, nanocomposites and their applications
  • Medical Nanotechnology - Nanoparticles and Nanoencapsulation, nano-biosensors, nano-manipulation of biomolecules
  • Environmental Nanotechnology
