Prerequisites
Bi1030 Inverteb. phylog. & divers.
A good overview of the system (phylogeny) of invertebrates, mainly arthropods, and their morphology, is very useful but does not necessarily require formal education as a prerequisite.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
The capacity limit for the course is 14 student(s).
Current registration and enrolment status: enrolled: 1/14, only registered: 0/14, only registered with preference (fields directly associated with the programme): 0/14

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to make the students acquainted, by means of our foremost specialists, with the diversity of our terrestrial invertebrate fauna, its taxonomy and identification (available literature - identification keys and how to use them, characters). The selection of presented taxa focuses on those that are not covered by other special courses (e.g. entomology - nevertheless several groups of insects, the by far most speciose group of animals have been included).
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course students should be able to identify common terrestrial representatives (on species level or that of higher taxa, depending on the difficulty of the given taxon) of invertebrate groups, important in terms of their ecological function or bioindication, such as: Annelida: Lumbricidae, Enchytraeidae; Gastropoda; Isopoda, Diplopoda, Chilopoda, Opiliones, Araneae (selected families), Cicadomorpha, Heteroptera, Caelifera, Ensifera, Formicidae, Coleoptera (selected families).
Syllabus
  • Annelida: Lumbricidae, Enchytraeidae; Gastropoda; Isopoda, Diplopoda, Chilopoda, Opiliones, Araneae (selected families), Cicadomorpha, Heteroptera, Caelifera, Ensifera, Formicidae, Coleoptera (selected families). The selection of groups presented in a given year can undergo minor changes depending on the availability of specialists for the individual groups.
