Geoenvironmental risks and remediations
Degree programme objectives
The mission of the new study program "Geoenvironmental Risks and Rehabilitation" is the preparation of sufficiently qualified graduates applying to the labor market in the field of applied geoscientific disciplines. One of the main and long-term requirements of employers is the practical skills and autonomy of graduates. The aim of study of the proposed study program is the active interconnection of theoretical knowledge and practical exercises in the field, laboratories and above all in practice by means of compulsory internships, so that the graduate is prepared to solve the assigned tasks independently in practice in its entirety.

- Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- use and explain basic geological terminology and geological knowledge, especially in the field of geoenvironmental risks, remediation, etc.
- work with Czech and foreign language literature.
- control well enough common methods of field and lab work, suppose a suitable way of collecting data, and do their field collection.
- process the acquired data using appropriate information tools.
- solve problems of geoenvironmental risks and remediation, assess relevance of data, identify problems and propose solutions.
- approach the necessary legislation.
- have a pilot experience with dealing with risk research and designing remediation measures.
- prepare professional work based on own research and present its results at an appropriate level, both in oral and in written form.
- Occupational Profiles of Graduates
The graduate's application is in the fields of environmental geology, geochemistry of the environment and hydrogeology - in companies (e.g., Aquatest, a.s., Geomin, Geotest, a.s., innogy, MND, Vodní zdroje Ekomonitor, s.r.o., EPS, s.r.o., DIAMO, s.p.), which solves the elimination of mining consequences activities, revitalization of the landscape, environmental stress of the rock environment due to anthropogenic activities, designing corrective actions and resolving works.
- Practical Training
Six weeks of compulsory practice will be divided into semesters (weekly practice in each semester and in the last two semesters 5x one-day practice).
Further practical lessons are part of the subjects taught.
- Goals of Theses
In the Mastr's thesis, the student demonstrates the ability to independently solve the problem of adequate difficulty, including work with literature, the processing and interpretation of the results and their presentation.
The student has the right to propose the topic of his/her thesis on the topics listed for the given study program or outside of this offer, if the supervisor agrees to do so and lists the proposed topic. Topics of the final thesis are approved by the director of the department.
The thesis includes literature thesis, i.e. a sufficiently good written summary of the current state of published knowledge about the topic on the basis of primary sources (i.e. scientific articles) including the list of cited literature.
The data used for the Master's thesis should be obtained by field or laboratory research, exceptionally can be taken over. The data must be creatively elaborated and interpreted in such a way that the Master's thesis brings new discovery.
The formal content of the Master's thesis is determined by the Dean's regulations. The extent of the core of the final thesis (i.e. the text and figures of the chapters between the Introduction to the Conclusions inclusive) must not exceed 50 pages. The minimum extent of work is not defined.
- Access to Further Studies
Graduates can pursue their studies in doctoral degree programmes.
