Objectives of the program
The aim of the doctoral degree program is to prepare specialized professionals with a focus on the theory of art education and its overlap with other disciplines. The basis is creating the theoretical background of the field, scientific research and extension of professional competencies towards the theory and practice of art and gallery pedagogy.
An important part is the enhancement of knowledge in related scientific fields (e.g. history and theory of art, philosophy and psychology of art), which define the historical and philosophical dimensions of art education. The main areas of interest are artistic creativity, artistic perception, interpretation of art, mediation of art, creation as a form of psychosocial therapy.
Graduates acquire profile competencies for the theoretical transformation of the contents of art culture to create a framework for further scientific research, publications and employment in tertiary education, in galleries and other special institutions.

- Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- fully develop theory and methodology in the form of theoretical texts and research and educational work
- interpret and mediate the most up-to-date tendencies in art pedagogy and in art in scholarly texts
- - create research and educational teams, lead creative workshops, actively participate at conferences and on other professional levels
- - develop interdisciplinary overlaps of art and gallery pedagogy, coordinate cooperation of educational institutions with galleries and facilitate socialization of art
- - suceed in the profession of an academic professional at universities and in specialized professions in the galleries and art museums
- Occupational Profiles of GraduatesGraduates find employment at universities, other educational or research institutions, galleries and cultural institutions. Graduates of the previous program followed by the Theory of Art and Gallery Pedagogy program work at universities (e.g. Masaryk University, Charles University Prague, FUD UJEP Ústí n. L., PdF UK Bratislava, Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology), galleries (eg. National Gallery in Prague, Brno House of Arts, Brno Youth Gallery, Moravian Gallery in Brno), as well as in the positions of editors and in the artistic operation positions.
For the professional development of the field is also important employment at the secondary schools with artistic and general focus.
- Practical TrainingThere are several levels of practice during the program and after graduation. In addition to teaching activities in the form of lecturing at the home department and teaching at secondary and other schools, students and graduates participate in research work within grant projects and cooperate with other universities and galleries. They also participate at scholarships abroad and in the Czech Republic, at creative workshops, at conferences and at professional and art symposia.
- Goals of ThesesThe aim is an original and beneficial elaboration of the field issues in a complex theoretical paper.
In the theoretical works different theoretical approaches to problems in the field are elaborated, requiring a high degree of abstract and analytical thinking and insight and are based on an independent research.
Methodological works analyse (new) research approaches, methods, techniques, instruments and evaluate their strengths and weaknesses. In addition to the scientific research, they are based on author's creative activities.
Empirical works bring specific findings obtained by specific research methods, while the presented findings always stem from the actual empirical survey.
