The program Romance Literature focuses primarily Francophone, Hispanphone, Lusophone, Italian and Catalan Literatures. In addition the program offers the specialization in Intermedia and Intercultural Communication that opens the way to translation, interartistic and comparative studies.
The aim of this doctoral degree study programme is to prepare competent and highly qualified scholars in literary theory and in literary history and in at least two Romance literatures. Graduates acquire appropriate methodologies of scientific work and demonstrate the effectiveness of their acquired skills in the field of their research specialization.

- Learning Outcomes
After successfully completing his/her studies the graduate is able to:
- deal scientifically with literary and cultural issues
- methodologically develop the research field
- succeed in research and academic institutions, and wherever it is necessary to use theoretical and methodological knowledge and skills at any public, private, Czech or foreign institution
- Occupational Profiles of Graduates
Graduates are prepared to enter research activities and occupations requiring highly specialized ability in criticism and literary reflection, especially in universities and research institutes at the international level.
- Practical Training
Practice is not a direct part of the curriculum, but can be a welcome addition to study. This concerns in particular practices in publishers, libraries, translation centers, public and private institutions, public and private companies.
- Goals of Theses
The standard range of doctoral work is 180,000 characters. Preparation, writing and editing of the thesis are consulted continuously with the tutor. PhD students are advised to register the course in the at the end of their study programme. In the PhD thesis, the PhD student certifies the ability of critical thinking in methodological and analytical work and an independent solution in tracing the given issue.
