  • Tomáš Janík, Professor of Education

    Tomáš Janík is a Primary School Teacher Training graduate (specialising in German as a foreign language) at the Faculty of Education, Masaryk University, as well as an Educational Management Master’s degree holder from the University of Derby. In addition, he participated in a further education course, Lehrgang Reformpädagogik, at Pädagogische Akademie des Bundes in Vienna in the course of the year 2001. Between 2001–2004 he studied in the Educational Sciences doctoral programme at the Faculty of Education, MU, and taught part-time at a basic school at the same time. In the year 2008 he habilitated, and in 2018 he was appointed as Professor in the field of Educational Sciences at the Faculty of Education, MU, where he works as a Head of the Institute for Research in School Education and serves as a Vice-Dean for Research and Academic Affairs at present. Between the years 2009–2011 he worked in parallel at the Institute for Education Research in Prague where he led the national research into curricular reform. Between 2007–2014 he acted as an Editor-in-Chief of Pedagogická orientace journal. From 2010 to 2016 he was a member of the Education, Psychology and Sport Studies working group of the Accreditation Commission; furthermore, he has been a head of the Subject Didactics working group of the Accreditation Commission since 2014 (acting as an Editor-in-Chief of the Subject Didactics: Review and Prospects monograph as well as The Framework Concept of Basic and Higher-Secondary School Teacher Education). He participated in processing the results of the 2014 TALIS international comparative research. Since 2015 he has been a member of the Minister of Education’s advisory board. He aims his professional focus on the issues of educational reforms, teacher professionalization, curriculum, and teaching and learning. Regarding research methodology, he concentrates predominantly on research based on video recording analysis. At the Faculty of Education of Masaryk University he teaches Research Methodology, Comparative Pedagogy and Didactics
