- I am a guarantee of the bachelor and master study programs focused on Biology with a view to Education and Upper Secondary School Teacher Training in Biology. I am a member of doctoral committees in Botany and Ecology and Masaryk University (MUNI) and previously I served as an external member of the doctoral committee of Biology at the University of Ostrava. Additionally, I am a member of the program board for programmes named Biology with a view to Education and Upper Secondary School Teacher Training in Biology (MUNI).
- I am chairperson for Bachelor and Master state exams in programmes Biology with a view to Education and Upper Secondary School Teacher Training in Biology Faculty of Science, MUNI. I am member of the committee for master state exams in Nature Protection, Faculty of Science, MUNI
- Scientific and Research Activities
- I am a botanist and a plant community ecologist with both practical and theoretical experiences in the field of community ecology, urban ecology, ecology of European habitats, particularly ecology of human made habitats, and macroecological studies. My research focuses om understanding biodiversity patterns, especially in functional and phylogenetic diversity of plant communities. I have extensive experience in fieldwork and analyses of large vegetation-plot databases across various spatial scales, regions and vegetation types.
- • I lead a project investigating the diversity of plant communities in urban environments and their impact on residents‘ lives.
- • I led a project studying emerging urban plant communities in Europe. analysing their structure across different climatic regions of Europe, projecting potential changes in urban plant communities under global change, and identifying key drivers of these changes. Our findings, showing that native and alien species respond similarly to climatic factors, were published in leading ecological journals.
- • I initiated and managed a floristic survey of Brno, compiling a database of approximately 70,000 records, now available for studying urban biodiversity. The results were published in early 2024.
- • As a member of the sDIV team led by Christopher Swan, I contributed to research on the functional diversity of urban plant communities, resulting in several joint publications, including one synthesis paper.
- • I am a member of the sCUBIC consortium (Synthesizing Global Urban Biological Invasion Knowledge), which studies species invasion in cities worldwide. This collaboration has led to high-impact publications.
- • I collaborated with Franz Essl’s team (University of Vienna) on predicting future emerging weeds in Central Europe.
- • I contributed to the development of the Pladias database, specifically the functional trait section.
- • I participated in the Biodiversa FeedBacks project, which examines interactions between vegetation and climate. My role involved developing a European plant dispersal database, published in Global Ecology and Biodiversity.
- • I contributed data to the global plant trait database TRY.
- University Activities
- I hosted one postdoc. Charlotte Ndibire, and supervised several Erasmus students mainly from Italy, and Hungary. My collaboration with Erasmus student Tamás Wirth from Pésc was positively evaluated by the rector of University of Pécs.
- Activities Outside University
- For four years, I served as an external member of the doctoral committee of Biology at the University of Ostrava.
- In the years 2019-2023, I have been a panelist in panel 505 of the GAČR.
- Membership in societies: International Asociation for Vegetation Science (since 2023 member of the council).
- Editorial work: Associate Editor/Member of Editorial Board (Phytocoenologia 2015-2019, Urban Ecosystem 2021-2023, Vegetation Survey and Classification 2020-, Applied Vegetation Science 2017-).
- Awards Related to Science and Research
- My project 18-02773S, “Evolutionary determinants of disconnected phylogenetic and functional diversity in European plant communities,” was nominated by panel 505 for the Czech Science Foundation President’s Award for Outstanding Research.
