Course objectives
A rapidly growing number of educational establishments around the world now see themselves as businesses competing with one another to seek profit maximisation and competitive global rankings. Simultaneously, and by default, the role of consumers has been assumed by its students: they are sold an education with blatant promises of both value for money and a virtual guarantee of success – in and beyond the classroom. Target-setting has become the norm, with little accountability all round…
Syllabus
  • Day 1: Encouraging Student Autonomy through Reflective Writing
  • Day 2: Reflective Teaching Observations – Quality Assurance & Personal Development
  • This two-day course highlights the value of introspection by key stakeholders in the education sector. Specifically, Day 1 will concentrate on students and how they can be encouraged by practitioners to understand the benefits of taking ownership for their progress through self-reflection. By contrast, Day 2 will focus on practitioners by outlining what the British Council (2012) called “a pioneering reflective observation process” designed to meet the needs of both quality assurance, and personal development. Both days will consist of interactive workshops with activities involving discussion, and the sharing of good practice.
