- The aim of this course is to assist students with learning differences in acquiring skills and strategies that will enable them to cope with writing texts in Academic English. Students will learn to analyse typical features of texts in Academic English (on the level of the whole text, paragraph as well as sentence) and subsequently write their own. Apart from that, they will get acquainted with text review techniques, including, but not limited to, peer review.
- Syllabus
- Unit 1: Writing strategies, writing for different purposes, sources on the Internet (personal experience)
- Unit 2: Structure of a written text, introduction, main body, conclusion, organising paragraphs, links and markers
- Unit 3: Structure of a paragraph in writing, paragraph extension, connection of paragraphs
- Unit 4: Formal style and its signs, formal writing, grammar structures and phrases in formal style
- Unit 5: Characteristics of final specialized/formal written text, proof reading, peer review
