Course objectives
The objectives of this course is for students to develop the ability to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters regularly encountered in work, school, leisure, etc. They will be able to deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken. They will be able to understand and produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. They will be able to describe experiences and events, dreams, hopes and ambitions and briefly give reasons and explanations for opinions and plans.

  • Modals and conditionals (0,1,2)
  • Relative clauses
  • Adjectives – active and passive (-ing, -ed), comparison
  • Adverbs – comparative, superlative
  • Nouns – articles, countability, quantifiers, partitives (none, (n)either, both, all)
  • Infinitive of purpose
  • Verbs + doing, to do, do
  • Phrasal verbs
Assessment methods
Students are required to obtain 100 points in order to pass this credit course. 20 points for attendance, 30 points for completing course assignments and participation in the seminar, 20 points for a mid-term test and 20 points for an end-term test.
