Course objectives (in Czech)
At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
demonstrate ability to comprehend and produce basic vocabulary, grammar and sentences in American Sign Language and discourse of Deaf Culture
participate in American Sign Language conversations incorporating discourse features, backchanneling and turn-taking cues
synthesize cultural and historical knowledge associated with American Sign Language and the ASL community.
Syllabus (in Czech)
  • ASL will be taught through tailored, customized themes (e.g.Introductions, School, Family, Giving Directions)
  • Increasing fluency in ASL conversations, narratives and performances
  • Cultural and historical anecedotes will be shared through ASL
  • Basic technology skills (video) will also be covered.
Teaching methods (in Czech)
Conversations via videoconference, videos of Youtube; e-learning, interactive activities.
Assessment methods (in Czech)
Comprehension and production will be assessed through multiple formal assessment measures as well as alternative assessment techniques such as narratives, performances, dialogues measured by the use of a rubric.
