- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, the students will be able to:
-demonstrate ability to comprehend and produce basic vocabulary, grammar and sentences in American Sign Language
-participate in American Sign Language conversations incorporating discourse features, backchanneling and turn-taking cues
-synthesize cultural and historical knowledge associated with American Sign Language and the ASL community - Syllabus
- ASL will be taught through tailored, customized themes (e.g.
- Introductions, School, Family, Giving Directions)
- Increasing fluency in ASL conversations, narratives and performances
- Cultural and historical anecedotes will be shared through ASL
- Basic technology skills (video) will also be covered.
- Literature
- Studenti si nemusí kupovat učebnici. Učitelé vytvoří speciální materiály ve formě videí a aktivit volně dostupných na internetu.
- Teaching methods
- Lecture to introduce vocabulary and structure with plenty of opportunities for practice through interactive activities.
- Assessment methods
- Comprehension and production will be assessed through multiple formal assessment measures as well as alternative assessment techniques such as narratives, performances, dialogues measured by the use of a rubric.
