Course objectives
This course aims to acquaint students with a variety of tools and approaches that will help them:
develop a plurilingual competence at A2-B1 level of CEFR adopt intercomprehension strategies
In other words, in this course you will be encouraged to reflect on languages and learn how to use efficiently your personal linguistic repertoire (= languages you already master at different levels) so you understand languages you have not learnt in formal education or you have not learnt them at all.
You will also learn the basics of several languages of your choice:
French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Czech and German
Learning outcomes
- deduce the probable meaning of unknown words from the above mentionned languages by identifying their basis or other lexical elements such as prefixes or suffixes;
- to orientate oneself in basic life situations and to respond to them adequately (even in another language) in order to achieve one's goal;
- work with the general meaning of short texts dealing with familiar topics;
- basic reactions in common situations.

Teacher's information
The course is a part of Erasmus+ BIP project which consists of two parts: 1.The 13-week online course, from February 19, 2024 to May 19, 2024, completely asynchronous. 2.The summer school from August 5 to 9, 2024, held in Brno, which is a face-to-face continuation of the online course with the emphasis on oral communication. Participants obtain 3 ECTS credits for the course and 2 ECTS credits for the summer school. The course audience will be international (from five universities), enabling authentic intercultural exchanges via discussion forums and other digital tools, and participants will also have the opportunity to meet on Zoom.
