- The course is open for deaf and hard of hearing students of any field. Students must have a (pre)-intermediate knowledge of English in order to register.

- The course aims to offer deaf and hard of hearing students an opportunity for meeting internationally, discussing suggested topics and peer learning. The topic of the summer school is D/deaf and hard of hearing students' language learning, learning styles and preferences. Thanks to the participation of international students and the invited guests, the course wishes to provide a floor for discussing related questions, and to reflect on how the participants' approaches to foreign language learning are similar or different, what works well for them or what they find ineffective, and to help them put these findings into practice.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the students will -become aware of their preferred learning style(s) • -acquire with techniques and strategies leading to a more effective foreign language learning • -be better equipped towards independent, self-regulated learning have more confidence in their ability to learn a foreign language • -familiarise themselves with deaf cultures of international summer school participants • -strengthen their knowledge of English and (in case of signing students) International Sign
- Syllabus
- The summer school is designed as an international forum for discussion and meeting. Topics discussed include foreign language learning, learning styles and strategies, culture of deaf and hard of hearing persons and the importance of international meetings. Specific presentations will be determined by the selected international and national guests. The mornings are typically dedicated for learning and training, while the project-learning activities such as fieldwork, field trips and didactic games take place in the afternoon. Taking a test on learning styles and strategies and discussing the test results is an integral part of the summer school.

- Assessment methods
- There is no written exam at the end of the course. To successfully complete this course it is necessary to: 1) take an active part in the summer school held from 30.6. to 6.7.2024 at the Siena School for Liberal Arts in Siena, Italy; 2) complete all assignments; 3) provide feedback on the event.
