- Course objectives
- This course prepares students for active participation in student conferences across various formats. It emphasizes both theoretical foundations and the development of effective presentation and communication skills. Additionally, the course provides opportunities for students to gain academic experience through International Student Colloquia and Conferences. The course combines asynchronous and synchronous learning. The interactive syllabus, structured into thematic blocks, includes study materials and activities. The synchronous component consists of nine 60-minute sessions, bringing together students from eight partner universities across seven countries. Next to MUNI, Czech Republic, there are teachers and students from Ecuador, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, the United Kingdom, Ukraine, and Turkey. These sessions will be held on Wednesdays at 5:00 PM, starting from March 19. Due to the time change, from April 2 onward, sessions will take place at 6:00 PM
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of this course, students will acquire the skills to: Prepare and present conference papers and academic posters effectively Enhance their public speaking and presentation abilities Engage actively in academic discussions and debates Express their opinions clearly, substantiating their arguments with evidence Formulate and articulate agreement or disagreement in academic settings and respond to questions thoughtfully Apply persuasive writing techniques to develop compelling academic posters and PowerPoint presentations Plan, structure, and deliver a conference poster presentation using advanced rhetorical strategies
- Syllabus
- This semester, the course content aligns with the key themes of the International Transcultural Project, in collaboration with partner universities across Europe and Latin America. As a result, joint seminars will be held in a synchronous online format, meaning real-time virtual meetings. The course supports the development of both productive and receptive language skills while refining students’ communication and presentation abilities through targeted exercises. Assignments are designed to progressively prepare students for the Online Student Conference formats. The semester includes 9 online sessions with partner universities starting from March 19, at 5 PM. From April 2nd, onward, the online sessions will begin at 6 PM.

- Teaching methods
- Each week, there is a 100mins session. Each session begins with a brief overview of the theoretical framework. Students are expected to do their reading assignments in advance to familiarize themselves with the main issues as part of their required preparation for the class. Moreover, regular preparation includes readings of recomended texts (ie. articles, case studies and monographs chapters, etc.), completed with topic related videos, Ted talks, podcasts, etc. Class participation is compulsory. The main emphasis of this course is to assure a variety of teaching and learning methods that correspond to hands-on form of seminars and workshops. According to the particular topics scheduled for each lesson, students have to prepare their presentations and academic posters, and deliver them in class, in order to discuss them with their classmates. The assignment includes giving and receiving constructive feedback as part of a reflective analytical approach.

- Students will be assessed via portfolio assessment desribed in detail in the study materials (they are expected to submit/do all the assignments listed there, both during the term and in the exam period). active attendance (70%)
