- Course objectives
- Course Description: This course introduces students to the field of nonprofit studies and examines the governance and management of nonprofit organizations in the U.S. context. The purpose of the course is twofold: 1. To teach students various aspects, functions, history and theories of the nonprofit sector in the U.S., 2.To provide current and future nonprofit managers and leaders with a broad overview of a range of nonprofit management concerns and practices.
- Learning outcomes
- Course Objectives: Upon completion of the course, students will demonstrate the ability to apply course concepts in the following areas: • Understand the role nonprofit organizations play in American society • Understand major issues and concerns that shaped the U.S. nonprofit sector and currently influence the field • Understand the governance structure of U.S. nonprofit organizations and the complexities associated with leading and managing within this structure • Knowledge of a broad set of nonprofit management methods and practices • Understand U.S. laws and standards applicable to nonprofit organizational management • Increase awareness of nonprofit sector values • Engage in critical thinking about issues, methods and practices associated with nonprofit management.
