Course objectives
The course has a specializing character. Its concept is based on the presumption that students have already acquired the knowledge of the subject matter in courses Theory of the Public Sector, Economics of the Public Sector and Economics of Non-profit Organizations. Lectures focus on general topics related to culture and mass media economy, while the structure of seminars enables students to get to know individual cultural and mass media institutions in practice. In analyzing typical cultural and mass media institutions, the accent is put on the following:
- their mission, role in the society,
- specific character of the goods produced,
- context of the national economy,
- government policy concerning culture and mass media,
- their institutional structure and system of management,
- organization and management of individual institutions,
- possibilities of their multisource funding,
- their legal embodiment,
- current problems involved in transforming their legal and economic forms.
All topics are interpreted in their development and documented by international comparisons.
