- Sociology (DSSO) The course describes social relations within whose framework the economic life takes place. It introduces into the study of social environment where economic decisions are made and action is carried out. In this respect it is an indispensable part of preparation for management of economic processes. The structure of the course should enable students to accomplish several goals in its duration: (1) Acquaint themselves with sociology as a core of modern science modelled on natural sciences. Within this framework they have an opportunity to deeply understand the relationship between the sociological and economic method of studying human behaviour and acquire terminology to understand the social determination of human behaviour. (2) Students will learn the principal topics of sociology of an industrial society. The topics of lectures include social organisation, culture, social inequality and stratification, change and conflict in an industrial or post-industrial society. Knowledge of social relations within modern organisations such as an industrial company and office is specifically stressed. (3) The individual topics will be explained in a variety of tradition of sociological thinking. The course enables a systematic study of the individual thematic sections. (4) Course participants will be given an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the main methods of empirical work in sociology and may test their independent elementary application. Exam requirements: seminar essay. Examination: written text.
