- Sociology of Organisation and Bureaucracy (DSSR) The course surveys the main trends in the development of theory of organisation in the 20th century. Its interdisciplinary character strengthens the links between the individual subjects as economic life penetrates nearly all spheres of the life of society. The course involves the use of knowledge gained in the related courses as follows: Psychology for Economists, Sociology of Economic Life, Introduction to Applied Philosophy, Business Ethics and Management. There is a focus on the study of groups within an organisation, influence of groups and the organisational structure on an individual's behaviour in an organisation, models of cooperative relations, conflicts and bureaucracy. The phenomenon of bureaucracy or bureaucratisation process, closely linked to the modern society, provides an exceptionally rich background for an analysis of human activities in a modern society. The goal of the course is to manifest the mastering of theoretical knowledge from the subject Sociology of Economic Life and the related courses and its application in decision making, management and leadership. Part of the goal is also being able to develop sociological knowledge creatively in changing conditions of business environment and apply it on various organisational levels. Large emphasis is placed on the practical application of theoretical knowledge in managerial work. The course is completed by a seminar essay. Examination: oral.
