- Open Economy Theory (PETOE) The aim of this course is to provide students with a standard analytical apparatus for exploring economic equilibrium and impacts of economic and political measures or various sorts of economic shocks within the given model structure in the open economy. The subject matter can be divided into several basic areas, which are interrelated: 1. Principal concepts of open economy (exchange rate models, balance of payment concept). 2. Derivation of a framework static model of open economy. 3. Comparative analysis in conditions of stationary equilibrium and balanced growth. 4. Analysis of mutual influence in the model of two open economies. 5. Introduction to dynamic economic models, model solution with rational expectations. 6. Monetary policy in open economy. 7. Selected applications (Dornbusch model of overshooting; failure of interest-rate parity; gold standard; model with imperfect capital mobility; J-effect and others) Seminars will be oriented on computer simulation of the theory covered.
