Course objectives
Introduction to the study of psychology starts humanist approach to the man as a person, entity and as an agent of social relationships, taking into account the biological determination and his links in the micro-, mezo-, exo- and macrosystem environment, with a view to lifelong process. In the introductory part of the course phylogeny and ontogenesis of humans are explained, which are psychosomatic own treatise on selected issues of the human person. Since the concept of man as natural and social being, lectures are transitioning to the interpretation of internal and external image of the personality, problems of human perception and behaviour. This human’s internal world is analyzed in terms of behaviour motivation, personality dynamics, biological balance of power and possibilities of man. The personality accented schedule of topics for the necessary changes in personality development, the methods of psychological knowledge and the question of categorization and recognition of mental disorders. At the end an ambiguous issue of maintaining an active mental and physical health is placed. Interpretation of the psychological nature of humans is supplemented by philosophical insight, cultural-anthropological, medical and environmental.

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- understand the experiential world around themselves and others
- acquire a skill to analyze and understand human activity
- be up to human motives of behaviour
- manage stress situations
Syllabus
  • Thematic plan and intent of the course (according to the weeks of education):
  • 1) Introduction to the basis of personal psychology. Traditional approach. Current knowledge of interdisciplinary approach from the eco-philosophy, sociology, antropology, ecology areas.
  • 2) Phylogeny and ontogenesis of humans. What is a man and how is he conditioned by biology? Biological fundamentals of psyche. Factors forming personality. Inheritance and environment. Processes of personality formation. Influence of socialization. Human and nature. Human and culture.
  • 3) Internal image of personality. How do we realize the world and ourselves? Me - integrating factor of mental life. Genesis of sense of mine. Self-reflection - image of myself. Aspiration and level of aspiration. Evaluation of myself.
  • 4) External image of personality. Behaviour - the key to the external image of human. Behaviour manners. Fundamental of behaviour. External image of human. Corporeal appearance. Means of expressions.
  • 5) Motivation of human behaviour. Problem of motivation. Motives in the job-relationship context. Motivation resources. Motives of working satisfaction. Personalization needs. Theoretical conception of motivation. Barriers of optimal working motivation.
  • 6) Biological personal dynamism. Temperament. Temperament conception. Temperament and emotion. Types of temperament. Biorhythms and personality. Organism chemism and psyche. Psychological model of temperament.
  • 7) Dynamic balance of human. Process of psychical adaptation. Adaptation dynamism. Dynamism of learned powerlessness. Dynamism of locator activity. Frustration. Manners of reaction to frustration. Emotion like factor of adaptation. Volition and adaptation of personal maturity.
  • 8) Performance possibilities of human. Personal presumption of performance. Intelligence. Human brain and its performance. Brain function and problem of artificial intelligence. Creativity. Changes in working productivity and creativity. Changes of working abilities in the ageing process.
  • 9) Human and his orientation in the world. Human as opened cognitive system. Human as a knowing subject - the part of different ecosystems and cultures. Cognition manners and interactive functions in the human structure.
  • 10) Ontogenesis of human psyche. Phylogeny, ontogenesis and actual genesis. Ontogenesis of human psyche. Psyche as the evolutionary process. Periodization of human life career. Sensitive evolution periods.
  • 11) Methods of human recognition. Observation. Interview. Anamnesis. Psychological tests - tests of performance and personal tests. Human study in working activity.
  • 12) Pathology of mental life. Resources of mental disturbance. Classification of mental disturbances. Disturbances of experiences. Disturbances of behaviour. Disturbances of intellect. Toxicomania, alcoholism, gamblerism.
  • 13) Resources of human health. The sense of right living corrections. Human as a psychosomatic unit. The sense of positive thinking. Human adaptation in challenging situations. Stress and its influence on human performance. Psychosomatic reaction to the stress. Zones of Reich. Locomotive and respiratory correction of the stress. Antistress organization of thinking.

Assessment methods
Students are working out one seminar work during semester.
Final written test consists of free answers to three questions in the time limit half an hour. The test is assessed on the point scale; the final classification is from A to F. None of the question can be assessed with mark F.
If student commits a prohibited act, such as usage of various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. Mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included to the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.).
