Course objectives
The aim of the course is to deepen and broaden knowledge of the corporate logistics strategy and processes in the production and non-production sphere, which is a major factor in the competitiveness of each company.

At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- explain the essential characteristics of a successful corporate logistics system
- create comprehensive system solutions for effective management process in chains, Supply Chain Management
- understand the process of rationalization of production and development trends in the industry
- understand not only the competitiveness of individual firms, but of the entire logistic chain
- summarize the role of synergy effect by achieving synchronised and mutually reconciliated activities of specialists from a number of direct logistic services ranging from a provider of information technology and systems to a provider of consulting services
The system of knowledge gained in this course creates a theoretical and methodological basis for the understanding of spatially economic considerations.
Syllabus
  • Thematic plan of the course:
  • 1. Concept of logistics and its development, original meaning of logistics, current meaning, corporate and economic logistics.
  • 2. Current state of logistic practice (BVV - excursion and lecture), European definition of logistics, logistic development, company development, economy and market.
  • 3. Logistic chains, Supply Chain Management, material aspect, non-material aspect, disposable logistic infrastructure, passive elements, active elements, logistics chain elements.
  • 4. Incorporation of logistics into the company system, corporate situation, evaluating logistic process, the content of consumer service, strategic conception of consumer service.
  • 5. Integration of material flow, material flow definition, structure, behaviour, the goal of pragmatical logistic material flow, value creation in the net.
  • 6. System approach and its methods, general theory of systems, system analysis, logistic chain, systematic approach, system approach.
  • 7.Warehousing and supply systems, warehousing advantages, warehouse localization, warehousing systems, selection of warehouse capacity, trucking and manipulation wrapping.
  • 8. Application in logistics - rationalization of logistic chain elements, logistic chains in distribution and car sales, chains’ specifics in e-commerce.
  • 9. Specification of logistic functions, main criteria of designing a logistic system, selection of logistic conception.
  • 10. Means of transport as a part of manipulating units, optimalization of transport ways, railway, motorway, river and marine transport.
  • 11. Providers of logistic services, competence, merchandise wrapping, consolidation and cross-docking, spatial dislocation of warehouses and logistic centres, warehouse capacity and logistic centres of forward agents, warehouse companies and developers.
  • 12. Logistic infrastructure, railway network, motorway network, river network, airports, temporal accessibility and reliability of transport service in logistic chains.
  • 13. Determinants of mobility and its tendencies, forms of transport as an important element of logistic chain.

Assessment methods
Lectures and seminars are based on the stated thematic areas; the check tests in the 9th and 12th week are obligatory (see conditions for completion of the course). Seminars are divided into 13 blocks. Tuition will take place in the form of lectures and seminars (supplemented by graphic audiovisual material) and in the form of case studies.
Form of examination: written and oral.
