- The course concentrates on the topic of sociology of organization, bureaucracy and sociology of work. After a general orientation in the history of theoretical approaches to organization, it focuses on the study of groups within an organization, influence of groups and the organizational structure on an individual's behaviour in an organization, models of cooperative relations, conflicts and on the bureaucratic phenomenon. Large emphasis is put on matching theoretical knowledge with the practical experience of the students.

- Introduction to the issues of formal organizations
- Classical period of the theories of organization and theories of bureaucracy
- Criticism of the classical period of theories of organization
- Hawthorn's experiments and changes in the paradigm of the organization studies
- Relation between an individual and organization
- Typology of approaches to an individual in the organizational context
- The newest approaches to an organization
- Organization from the viewpoint of the main sociological paradigms
- The topic of groups in the sociology of an organization
- Group structure and dynamics
- Sociometric technique
- Working group and conflict
- Literature
- Assessment methods
- The course is concluded with a written exam. Students are eligible to take the oral exam provided that they fulfill given conditions:
1. achieving 75% presence in seminars and active participation,
2. presentation of a (short) paper,
3. elaboration of a research project.
Important information! If students commit a prohibited act, such as using various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, the teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. The mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included in the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.). - Language of instruction
