- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to discuss and analyze typical problems of the management in public administration. Students are introduced to the specifics of the management in public administration in general; particular attention is paid to the strategic management, quality management, managing organizational change and the human resource management.
At the end of the course students should be able to:
- interpret the importance of the management in the public administration
- explain the basic principles of the strategic management, the quality management and the managing organizational change
- specify the individual activities in the human resource management
- categorize the particular skills needed for the achieving successful role of a public administration manager
- evaluate the possibilities of application of these modern tools of management to specific terms of the public administration - Syllabus
- • Content of the course is divided into three basic parts.
- • In the first part is a general overview of management in public administration from the perspective of contemporary theories of management in the public sector (public management).
- • The second part of the course focuses on the strategic management of public sector organizations as a key instrument of development organizations, fulfilling the mission and satisfy the interests of stakeholders.
- • Given the crucial importance for the realization of the strategy and achieving organizational goals with human resources is the third part of the course devoted to human resource management and the specifics of public administration.

- Teaching methods
- lectures,presentations by professionals in the sectors, class discussion, group projects, case studies, readings.
- Assessment methods
- The course is concluded with an oral exam - discussion on a final group project.
Students are eligible to take the oral exam provided that they fulfill given a condition: they pass a writen test (a test is regarded as successful if at least 50 % of answers are correct).
Important information! If students commit a prohibited act, such as using various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, the teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. The mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included in the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.). - Language of instruction
