- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course:
- to acquire the specialized language of business and economics
- to improve general language skills
- to be able to understand a specialized text
- to master less demanding forms of business communication
Students should achieve the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
After successful completion of the course, the specialized language will be an open system which the students can adapt to their professional needs. - Syllabus
- 1. Revision of L 9 - 11 (FIESTA). Business Spanish: Types of companies, entities.
- 2. L 12 - plusquamperfecto. Topic of conversation: At the restaurant. Business Spanish: Company (departments, selection of employees, business dinner, bussines trips).
- 3. L 12 - consecution of tenses. Topic of conversation: Spanish food and drinks. Business Spanish: Work contracts (jobs, job advertisements).
- 4. L 13 - conditional sentences. Topic of conversation: Cinema, theatre, video. Business Spanish: Labour environment (company environment, agenda, meetings).
- 5. L 13 - sin + infinitive, volver a + infinitive, articles. Topic of conversation: Culture and cinema. Business Spanish: Business (sales).
- 6. L 14 - estar + participle. Topic of conversation: Monuments and places of interest. Business Spanish: Publicity and sale.
- 7. L 14 - llevar + gerund, después de + infinitive, position of adjectives. Topic of conversation: Curiosities of Spain. Business Spanish: business achievemns and failures (strategies, professional aspirations, motivation).
- 8. L 15 - subjunctive. Topic of conversation: Spanish and its autonomous regions. Government and regions. Business Spanish: Banking.
- 9. L 15 - subjunctive/continuation. Topic of conversation: Spanish Government/regions. Business Spanish: professional plans, studies and experience, CV.
- 10. L 15 - ir + gerund, prepositions. Topic of conversation: Latin America. Business Spanish: Founding a new company.

- Self-study preparation for the examination.
- Assessment methods
- Examination: written and oral
- 60% of points in the written examination are required for the admission to the oral part.
- 60% pass mark for the oral part involving reading comprehension of a didactised specialist text and subsequent discussion over the selected topic.
If a student is caught using forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam, or cheating in any other way, the teacher is allowed to interrupt the exam and to grade the student with F, FF, or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. - Language of instruction
