- Course objectives
- In the first semester the course provides an opportunity to master some topics and skills typical for a more complex communication, and to apply them to professional activities typical of the business environment, such as:
- taking minutes from a meeting,
- asking for information,
- communication over telecommunication devices and
- writing up messages.
This subject further develops students’ general and business vocabulary as well as grammatical structures typical for technical language. The stress is put not only on the development of communication skills, but also on the ability to use the acquired knowledge actively.
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- understand a general economic text of intermediate difficulty level,
- discuss covered economic topics and
- orientate themselves in English economic terminology relating to the covered topics. - Syllabus
- The following topics will be studied during the semester:
- La empresa - companeros de trabajo, horarios, agenda, reuniones de equipo, cenas de negocios,
- La comunicación profesional en la empresa (conversaciones telefónicas, correo electrónico), sus relaciones con el exterior (viaje de negocios, transportes),
- Publirreportajes - empresas exitosas con historia,
- Normas de seguridad en la empresa,cultura de empresa,
- La salud laboral, ambiente de trabajo, motivación de los empleados,
- El arte de la negociación I,
- El arte de la negociación II (interculturalidad en el mundo de los negocios, ?cómo negociar con los espanoles y los latinoamericanos?,
- La correspondencia comercial (tipos de cartas comerciales),
- Aspiraciones profesionales (claves de éxito/fracaso),
- El puesto de trabajo - captación-anuncio-solicitud de empleo-curriculum, entrevista de trabajo, cartas de presentación,
- Gramática: repaso de pronombres (OD/OI), los tiempos del pasado, condicional simple, estilo directoxindirecto, correlación de los tiempos en el pasado, subjuntivo (presente), expresar opiniones, construcciones pasivas e impersonales.
