Course objectives
Microeconomics is intermediate level course. The main aim is to deepen students' knowledge of market subject behavior. Explication of market behavior is supported by the tools of quantitative analysis in the sphere of consumer behavior theory as well as firm theory. Attention is focused on specific characteristics of different market situations. The same approach is used in the area of input market.
Learning objectives - at the end students should be able to:
* understand and explain elemental macroeconomic problems;
* work with information on basic macroeconomic context;
* analyze economic reality using elementary macroeconomic models.
Syllabus
  • Lectures: 1. Conception of subject microeconomics, market coordination mechanism, market economy, market equilibrium conditions, market failures 2. Analysis of consumer demand, indifference curve and indifference map, indifference analysis, consumer preferences 3. Fundamental attributes of connection between inputs and output in economic theory, production analysis 4. Firm costs, firm revenues, supply and its characteristics on market 5. Effectiveness of perfect competition market 6. Base coherence of imperfect competition market, imperfect competition category 7. Equilibrium of monopoly and anti-monopoly regulation 8. Equilibrium of oligopoly, monopolistic competition market 9. Input market, price determination, influence over decision-making of firms 10. Labor market and unemployment 11. Financial and capital market, land market 12. Universal equilibrium, Pareto effectiveness, Walras equilibrium

Teaching methods
The course is the tip of the iceberg of graduate students theoretical knowledge of economics. Economic subject matter is lectured and consequently self-study is farmed out to students and discussed in seminars.
Assessment methods
The course is concluded by a written test. The exam is given and marked by a Czech lecturer in Czech language. The exam result consists of 50% of the final exam and 50 % of progress tests. If a student is not able to pass the progress tests during semester then he/she is not allowed to write the final test. The exam result is then F.
