Course objectives
The goal of this course is to introduce the most important and influential theoretical concepts in the field of business informatics. Besides the theories, you will also acquire a deeper understanding of the most frequently used research methods. You will utilize the knowledge obtained in this course in subsequent courses and during work on your thesis because you will be able to ground your thesis in theory.

The teaching materials will be predominantly research papers and you will train critical analysis and interpretation of the papers. You will apply your knowledge by writing and presenting a research essay that will cover at least one theory introduced in the course.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course, you will be able to:
- explain the nature of the selected business informatics theories,
- review and analyze the usability of one selected theory,
- critically understand and interpret academic research papers,
- select an appropriate research method for a chosen problem.

Lectures, tutorials, reading and interpreting, essays.
Assessment methods
There are four parts for the assessment as below. To pass the course, you must achieve at least 50% of the points from each part. Meanwhile, you cannot skip some assignments.
• Pre-Class Online Quizzes and Class Discussion: 20% (10% each) • Paper summary and presentation: 30% • Research Proposal presentation and report submission: 50% • Active participation: Extra 10%
The following points are needed to get the credits:
• A >= 90 points • B >= 80 points • C >= 70 points • D >= 60 points • E >= 55 points
The course cannot be completed without meeting the attendance requirement. In the case of a planned internship abroad, students may register for the course in an earlier/later year than when it is recommended in their curriculum. Students will also receive credit for the course if they take a course with similar content and scope in a foreign country. The usual name of the equivalent course at partner universities is "Information Systems Theories". Students may consult the course equivalency with the guarantor prior to or within the first 14 days of the semester.
