- Monetary Policy for Students of National Economy (MPPN) This course broadens and complements the students knowledge in the field of theory and modern trends of practical currency policy. The subject matter is divided into three areas: (i) the introduction will focus on problems of the formulation of objectives and tools of the currency policy, on the transmission mechanisms and on efficiency and practical applicability of the currency strategies linked with politics; (ii) the second area is concentrated on the position of the central bank in the national economy, the relationship between the central bank and the government and on the concept and national economic aspects of the central bank independence; (iii) the last area is in harmony with the present trends and deals with the external aspect of currency policy, i.e. with currency rate policy, systems of exchange rates and their practical application. The subject combines theory with practice with respect to international comparisons, Czech life and institutions and with regard to the transformation process as well as the process of European integration. The course is organised in the form of lectures and seminars; the lectures provide the basic presentation of topics, which are analysed and discussed at the seminars. Students prepare brief, narrowly focused papers on current topics of their own choice. Credit requirements: seminar papers Examination: oral
