Course objectives
The Monetary and Financial Policy of the EU (PFMFPE) The course is focused on understanding the objective factors leading to economic and monetary integration and the monetary and financial instruments of the EU, encouraging and promoting these trends. The course aims to explain the idea and principles of the European Economic and Monetary Union, its implementation and consequences. Students will learn about the current situation in the development of the European Monetary Union and the single currency (Euro). The issue of EU enlargement will also be covered, as well as the influence the EMU and single currency have on candidate countries (with attention paid to the Czech Republic). It also deals with the position of Europe in the world economy after the end of World War II, establishment of the ECSC, Euroatom and EEC, and the integration process in Western Europe. It addresses the development of international economic and monetary relations in the world economy, particularly in Europe. Prehistory of the European Monetary Union is covered as well - the history of monetary unions, the role of the European Payment System in the process of liberalisation and introduction of external convertibility of Western Europe s currencies. Involvement of Western Europe in the international monetary system from the perspective of influence on European economic and monetary integration. The role of the European Monetary System and the European Currency Unit (ECU) in the process of the European economic and monetary integration will be dealt with, as well as the characteristics and principles of the Economic and Monetary Union (its establishment, advantages). Examination: written and oral.
