The course is designed for the Public Economics and Administration field of study.
The course expects students’ previous knowledge of Public economics and Microeconomics (undergraduate level). Students are recommended (but it is not an obligation) to enrol for this course after taking these prerequisites.

Course objectives
Main objectives include the following: - application of previous knowledge in the field of sport economy - understanding the principles of financial flows in the sport (public as well as private sources) - understanding the institutional system in the sport and sport policy - analyzing the issues concerning financing and strategy of sport clubs in the relation to public sources - understanding the impact of investments in the field of sport activities - being aware of relevant legislation and public policies related to the sport. - ability to apply knowledge on practical issues
Syllabus
  • Following topics will be covered in the course:
  • 1. Basic terms and history of sport 2. Microeconomic and macroeconomic aspects of the sport 3. Institutions in the sport: state, NGOs, private institutions (at the level of the EU, Czech Republic - central and regional). Sport policy 4. Financing of the sport - public sources (central, regional, and local level of the Czech Republic) 5. Subsidies and grants – the view of the state in comparison with sport organizations opinions 6. Specificity of the investment in the sport - methods of outcome evaluation and analysis of consequences 7. Financing of the sport - Private sources 8. Betting and lottery as a part of the economy of sport 9. Sports clubs - theirs features, financing and strategy 10. Marketing and Management of sports clubs 11. Professional sport as an economic activity 12. Legislation and specificity of the taxation system for sport organizations (in the Czech Republic)

Teaching methods
The course takes place in 3 tutorials, which are divided to lectures and seminars and serve as a framework for self-studying of students. Strong emphasize is put on self-study activities. Semestral work is a part of evaluation.
Assessment methods
The course takes place in 3 tutorials, which are divided to lectures and seminars and serve as a framework for self-studying of students. In order to pass the subject (minimum gain is 60 points), students are required to: 1. elaborate a seminar essay (max. 10 points) 2. pass the test focusing on their knowledge (max. 90points) 3. Increase the points score through voluntary activity: summary (in Czech) of a paper related to the topic of the course and written in English. (Max. 10pts) Requirements (including the literature) are specified further in the interactive syllabus and the downloadable study plan before the semester starts. Important information! If students commit a prohibited act, such as using various forbidden tools, cribbing, taking out any part of the exam or any other cheating, the teacher is allowed to interrupt an exam and to grade a student with F, FF or FFF according to the seriousness of the offence. The mentioned procedure relates to all the activities that are included in the final evaluation of the course (seminar work, essays, tests etc.).
